Historical and architectural reference point listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, outstanding example of Catalan modernist architecture and a dynamic centre for culture and music, the Barcelona Palau de la Música Catalana is a remarkable concert centre that cannot be missed.
Built between 1905 and 1908, the Palau is the work of the Catalan architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, a major figure of the Catalan modernist movement (Art Nouveau equivalent). Located in the Sant Pere neighbourhood, area rich in historical and cultural heritage, the building is famous for its elaborately decorated interior and exterior design, which combines both Catalan tradition and symbolic elements linked to music.
With an excellent use of natural light, the interior is no less impressive. The high point is the concert hall with its incredible domed glass ceiling, designed to look like a sunny sky.
Mosaics, sculptures and stained glass windows add to the visual splendour.
As well as being a historical and architectural landmark, the Palau continues to serve as an important concert hall, hosting a variety of musical events from classical to jazz and world music.
